Required for employment in China, and also known as a police record, background check, or good conduct certificate. We handle the apostille once you've obtained your report.
A no criminal history report is commonly required for employment in China. To use it there, the report must first be apostilled by the state or federal authority that issued it — VisaRite can help you obtain that apostille certificate. Getting started takes five steps: obtain the report, get it notarized if required, let us secure the apostille, complete a Service Request, and send us your documents.
*Express isn't available for every document type, and an additional government expediting fee may apply.
There are three levels of background check — local, state, or federal (FBI). For most applicants, a local or state report is sufficient, but check with your employer for their specific requirement.
Visit the police department in the city where you currently or most recently resided in the United States, or contact the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division of your state, and request a criminal records search. They'll provide a document confirming there is no history of a criminal record.
If your employer requires a nationwide background check, you'll need an FBI Identity History Summary instead. See our dedicated FBI Background Check Apostille page for the full walkthrough.
The signature of the official who issued your local or state background check must be notarized by a Notary Public. Sign the document in the notary's presence; the notary should add an acknowledgment statement such as "Signed and sworn (or affirmed) to before me this ____ day of ____, 20__," along with their seal and signature.
Documents notarized in these states must also be certified by the county before state authentication. County certification is available from a circuit clerk, circuit court, county clerk, probate judge, or superior court clerk.
| Service level | Processing time | Fee |
|---|---|---|

| Express Processing* | 2–3 weeks | $249.00 per document |
*Express isn't available for all documents, and an additional government expediting fee may apply. Processing time is approximate and for reference only — government processing time is subject to change without notice.
Following these steps closely is the single biggest thing you can do to avoid delays.
